Abstract

The Urban Farming Program in the Rusun Marunda was initiated by the government and managed by 50 farmers in 2014. The goals of the urban farming program are to develop green space, to provide the food access system and to empower the  community. However, the number of farmers who participate in Urban Farming Program continues to decrease as in 2019 only remains 5 (five) farmers. This research aims to find out the decreasing reasons for ommunity participation in Urban Farming Program. The method of this research uses the qualitative approach with purposive sampling. Farmers with psychology-Altruism motivation are participating due to fulfill self-satisfaction while farmers with economic motivation are participating due to gain the financial benefits from Urban Farming Program. The results of the study found out that the decreasing number in community participation is caused by the obstacles in farming which demotivating farmers to participate in the Urban Farming Program. Abstract

Semarang has a Kampung Batik which is a batik crafts center with Batik Semarangan as its main product. The Kampung Batik is located in Rejomulyo Village, East Semarang Sub District, Semarang. The development and management of the tourism sector in Kampung Batik is a form of tourism development based on community development. However, there are various problems in the development process, such as the lack of role of the Kampung Batik Association in encouraging the community and uniting batik artisans. Besides, limited funds, types of equipment, and places to hold pieces of training also add to the obstacles in tourism development. Most people in Kampung Batik who still think that the proceeds of batik activities do not add up to the cost of living, resulting in the people being reluctant to participate in developing Kampung Batik. The research method used is qualitative. The types of data collected are primary data, obtained through interviews and field observations, and secondary data acquired through literature review and documents analysis. The output of this study showed that tourism development in Kampong Batik was a tourism development based on community development carried out by various parties and then encourages participation from the local community and the realization of community empowerment efforts. Such community development plays a role in supporting tourism in Kampung Batik, namely improving the physical quality of the environment, creating togetherness and harmony between citizens, absorbing workforce in the tourism sector, providing tourist objects and attractions, and increasing the number of tourists.

Abstract

Tourism is a highly developing sector in Indonesia. Indonesia has so many tourism spots that its government is focusing on making policies on how to develop its tourism potentials. There are five things that need to be considered on tourism development, namely tourists, accessibility, tourist attractions, tourist accommodation, and promotions. Pantai Ngebum is one of many tourist sites in Kendal Regency. Pantai Ngebum has been opened as a tourism spot since 2010 but is still poorly managed independently by people of Mororejo Village where it is located. Due to its poor management, tourism facilities’ condition in Pantai Ngebum is considered low. On weekdays, Pantai Ngebum is usually visited by up to 100 people, but on weekends or holiday seasons the visitors could reach up to 1.600 people. Because of the high interest from the visitors, Pantai Ngebum is expected to improve its development so it can be one of Kendal Regency's top tourism sites. This research is aimed to find tourism development strategies in Pantai Ngebum using SWOT analysis.
